Soot and smoke Damage

10/23/2019 (Permalink)

Smoke and soot damage after a kitchen fire.

Soot and smoke are byproducts given off from fires. Both can vary in color and smell depending on the materials that make up the fire. Smoke is a collection of airborne solid and liquid particulates and gases emitted when a material undergoes combustion together with the quantity of air that is mixed into the mass. Smoke odor and color can change from a dark black to a light gray depending on what was burnt. Protein fires result in smoke damage from the burning of any protein enriched fibers, most commonly due to neglectful cooking. Unlike any other typical house fire where there is lots of visible smoke from fast burning materials, the low temperature of cooking food reduces the animal fat and protein to a fine mist. This specific type of fire does not appear to produce much smoke or cause significant visible damage to your property, but the mist it produces will cover your entire home in an invisible, sticky, foul smelling residue. This residue can penetrate your range hood, cabinets, ducts, closets, textiles, ceiling tiles, insulation, the paint on your walls, and any other porous surface in your home. We have the equipment, expertise, and experience to restore your fire and smoke damage.  We will also treat your tenants with empathy and respect and your property with care.
